Biography of Shoaib Akhtar
Akhtar made his Test match debut as an opening fast bowler in November 1997 and played his first One Day International three months later. He was embroiled in a number of controversies in his career, often accused of unfriendly behavior. Akhtar was sent to the country in 2005 for alleged bad attitude during a Test match series in Australia and was banned a year later after testing positive for the performance-enhancing substance Nandrolone. However, on the basis of the appeal, the ban imposed on him was lifted.
In 2008, Akhtar was banned for five years for publicly criticising the Pakistan Cricket Board, although in October 2008, the Lahore High Court suspended the ban and Akhtar was selected in the 15-man squad for the Twenty20 quadrennial tournament in Canada.
